About AJ Blakeney

Alphonso Blakeney, Jr. began studying voice at Suitland High School Center of the Visual and Performing Arts. His voice instructors included Stradivari Baynard and Joseph Richter. In 2010, he began studying at Bowie State University under Dr. Brian G. Semos in pursuit of his Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in vocal performance.

He has performed the classical masterworks of Wolfgang A. Mozart (Opera Chorus-Le nozze di Figaro), Handel (The Messiah), Felix Mendelssohn (As the Hart Pants), Randall Thompson (The Peaceable Kingdom), Alexander Borodin (Polovetzian Dance and Chorus), Morten Lauridsen (Lux Aeterna) and Antonio Vivaldi (Gloria in D). As a classical soloist and recitalist, Blakeney has graced the stages of many recital halls and churches throughout the Washington, D. C. Metropolitan area. He has sung under the direction of acclaimed conductors such as Dr. Marymal L. Holmes, Joyce Garrett, Ian Frasier, Stanley Thurston and Everrett P. Williams.

Currently, Mr. Blakeney serves as vocal and general music teacher for District of Columbia Public Schools. In addition, Blakeney is pursuing his Master of Arts in Music Education with a concentration in vocal and general music at Liberty University.
